Garden Blend is a planting soil formulated for landscape beds, ground cover beds and backfilling new plantings. It provides high moisture holding ability and a very productive nutrient utilization system. Renewed Earth Lifecycle Compost provides organic matter, moisture retention and natural long term support for your plants.
Garden Blend includes a generous amount of Renewed Earth Lifecycle Compost as its organic component. Lifecycle Compost improves nutrient handling, moisture holding and air space characteristics while supporting healthy plant growth. Garden Blend will maintain its high performance growing characteristics much longer than typical compost and peat moss amended planting soil.
Natural topsoil and structure sand are the mineral components incorporated to fine tune the moisture holding and air space relationship of the final blended soil. The naturally occurring topsoil also inoculates the soil with a small but diverse biological population to complement the natural chemical and biological characteristics of the Lifecycle Compost. The lifecycle Compost organic portion of this soil contributes to making this a long term productive outdoor planting soil.

Garden Blend is a screened blend of Renewed Earth Lifecycle Compost, structure sand and topsoil.
How Much Should I Use?
The optimal planting bed is constructed with 8 to 12 inches of planting soil on top of well-drained subsoil. Single larger plants should be planted in a hole roughly three times the size of the root ball then backfilled with the planting soil.
While this sounds extreme consider that each plant will send out its roots in search of moisture and nutrients. If the planting soil is only at the top 3 inches of a bed, a larger plant root system will have a hard time getting all it needs from the thin layer of soil at the top of the root system. The planting soil should be in the potential root area or root zone where the plant will end up getting its moisture and nutrients. Top dressing lawns involve spreading about ¼ inch of new soil onto the existing lawn and raking it in. This increases the organic component and smoothes out lumpy spots. Even better is to core aerate before topdressing in all types of soil. This combined with over seeding is a great way to refurbish an existing lawn without starting from scratch.
What is the Difference Between Garden Blend and Yard Blend?
Garden Blend has a higher organic content than Yard Blend. It is a little fluffier, looser, and lighter weight than Yard Blend. Yard Blend has more body to it. It is not as spongy, yet has plenty of organic content for lawn use. Garden Blend has more organic material and is therefore better suited for gardening.
